FAQs for Best Agrolife DIRON (Dinotefuran 20% WG) Insecticide :
1. What kind of insecticide is Dinotefuran and how does it work?
Ans. Dinotefuran is a third-generation neonicotinoid insecticide that acts systemically. It targets the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in insects, causing overstimulation, paralysis, and eventual death. Unlike older chemistries, it doesn't interfere with cholinesterase or sodium channels, offering a distinct mode of action.
2. Which pests and crops does DIRON effectively control?
Ans. DIRON (Dinotefuran 20% WG) is effective against major sucking pests like aphids, jassids, whiteflies, thrips, and brown planthopper in rice. It's used in key crops such as paddy and cotton. Recommended doses are around 60–80 g/acre on paddy and 50–60 g/acre on cotton.
3. How fast does it take to act, and is it systemic?
Ans. Yes, DIRON is systemic and shows rapid knockdown—often within 1–3 hours of application. It moves through the plant via xylem and phloem, including leaf surfaces, providing broad protection.
4. Can DIRON help where other insecticides have failed due to resistance?
Ans. Absolutely—it offers excellent control even in cases of resistance to older neonicotinoids like imidacloprid, making it effective against tough pests such as imidacloprid-resistant whiteflies.
5. What precautions are needed regarding pollinators and the environment?
Ans. Dinotefuran is highly toxic to honeybees and other beneficial insects. Avoid spraying during flowering or bee-foraging hours, and never apply near water bodies to protect aquatic life.
6. Is DIRON safe for the crop and the farmer?
Ans. Yes—when used at labeled doses, it is minimally phytotoxic, meaning it won’t harm the crop. For applicators, use PPE (gloves, goggles, masks), avoid inhalation or skin contact, and ensure proper storage.
7. How persistent is the product in field conditions?
Ans. Dinotefuran has moderate soil persistence, with a half-life of about 22–68 days. It is highly soluble (almost 40 g/L in water), making it rapidly bioavailable yet manageable in field conditions.
